Inaugural ISSC SciComm Challenge Submission

About the competition

The International Society of Science Communicators (ISSC) invites thinkers, writers, and creators from all backgrounds to master the ultimate academic challenge: translating complex science into captivating prose. Can you strip away the dense academic jargon and make a groundbreaking concept brilliant, beautiful, and completely accessible to the general public?

The Target: Select any scientific phenomenon, from the intricate mechanics of CRISPR gene-editing to the everyday physics of how water boils.

The Constraint: Your entire explanation must be 200 words or less (excluding the title). We value high-impact brevity, meaning micro-essays as short as 50 words are fully welcome.

Success is judged on absolute technical accuracy paired with vivid analogies and an engaging narrative style.

The ISSC operates strictly as a zero-fee, non-commercial student network. This challenge is 100% free to enter. To celebrate exceptional clarity and literary creativity, the ISSC will award the following honors, as digital certificates:
Top 3 Entrants: The ISSC Certificate of Excellence
Top 5 Runners-Up: The ISSC Certificate of Recognition

Please note: The ISSC is entirely a free, student-run network. It is not a formal organization, company, or non-profit entity.
